Community Supported Agriculture:
We Want to Be Your Farmers!
Our plan has always been to create a community supported farm. The CSA model has great benefits for the community and the farmer. When people become part of a CSA they buy “shares” of that farm’s projected produce for the season. When you become a member of a CSA farm you play an important role in the success and stability of that operation. You also, of course, reap the benefits of high quality, local food. In this way a person or a family can gain a greater connection to their food as well as help support local agriculture in their area.
We also experience great benefits from this model. By selling shares before the season starts, the farmer has the capital to begin production and he or she also knows how many customers they have and what those customers want. This takes much of the uncertainty and risk out of the equation and lets us customize for individual orders.
We use the term “share” because that is what we feel we are offering, a share of this great farm. Producing on a small scale means that we are intimately acquainted with our animals. We are also interested in a personal connection to our customers as they are the final beneficiary of the effort and care we put into raising our meat.
A Natural Meat CSA
Vegetable CSA’s usually work by having members pick up fresh veggies once a week throughout the growing season. Having a meat CSA works a little differently. We have created an order form that offers you various combinations of our meat and eggs. We also sell each product individually and can create any custom combination a customer wants to put together. Deposits needed are indicated on the order form. These orders allow us to see not only how much interest there is in various products, it also gives us the capital needed to purchase and manage the animals until they reach maturity. Chicken will become available first in late June, eggs will be available all season. Combination packages including turkey and lamb will be ready at the end of November.
We have six cows going to beef this year, all will be ready form late September to Early October. We expect the beef to sell out so please let us know if you are interested.
Our Pricing
We have tried to price our meat and eggs according to what we see in comparable markets for the food we are producing. We have sampled other farms, looked at price reports, talked to farmers, been to farmers markets, and tried to account fairly for our feed and labor costs. The food we produce is crafted here with a lot of attention to detail, it is raised with care and contemplation every day. Throughout the growing season the farm has many pieces, all in motion and serving a purpose. Lots of our time and energy goes into our products; our goal is to produce food that is of incredible quality and incredible value.
